SEEING IS NOT BELIEVING

“Hungry?” Nikolaus asks, heading to the small kitchen, still naked.

“Mm,” Noelle hums, following him as she slips on his shirt.

“No clothing,” he insists, trying to take it off of her.

“Someone will be able to see through the windows,” she counters, pushing the edges of the fabric down as she tries to get away.

“They can’t see in,” he assures.

Her brows furrow as she glances back. Nikolaus manages to remove the shirt before Noelle’s ability to object.

“Come,” he says offering his hand.

“I did just come, but I could go again,” she snickers, trying to pry the shirt from his hand.

“Good,” he says tossing the fabric toward the bed and pulling her into him. “After a snack.”

“You’re not fucking with me, are you?”

Nikolaus chuckles. “There’s no way I’d let someone else see your beautiful body.”

“Jokes on you,” she says. “A few guys have seen it.”

“They were your past,” he reminds, kissing her cheek before reluctantly letting her go. He opens a narrow cupboard and grabs two glasses. “And, as Hope said, I am your present.”

Noelle bites back a smile.

“And, my future,” he adds confidently.

Though she feels it deep down in her gut that it’s true, it still freaks Noelle out that Nikolaus is the one thing that she truly knows there is no hesitation about. Like the Great Mother, there is a feeling, a knowing, of calm centeredness she has with him that is unwavering. It freaks her out that it doesn’t freak her out.

“Come,” Nikolaus bids, offering his hand. As she approaches him, he hoists her onto the small counter.

Nikolaus takes out meats, cheeses, and crackers along with nuts and seeds for them to feast on. He pours a warm drink that has a hint of whiskey to it. They eat and drink quietly as he stands between her legs—always touching her.

After another round of pleasure, they lay quietly gazing at each other. Neither have ever felt so contented and whole. Noelle revels in the sensations that linger in her body and the energy she’s never experienced before.

“Why is this section empty?” she asks, dragging her finger along his chest and circling his heart.

Nikolaus glances down and captures her hand against his chest. “It was left blank for the one who has my heart.”

Noelle’s eyes widen.

“Does that scare you?”

Her head bobs slightly. “Yes…and no.”

“I know we haven’t known each other long but—“

“It’s like we’ve known each other forever.”

“Yes,” he agrees.

“How?” she asks. Noelle swallows hard.

Nikolaus lets out a huff. “That requires us getting dressed.”

Noelle pouts as she looks out the floor-to-ceiling window that is the entire wall of one side of the cabin. The glass is dark, though she can see shadows bouncing beyond it in the distance.

“You mean we’d have to leave the cabin?”

Nikolaus nods.

“It’s late,” she states. “Why can’t you just tell me?”

He lets out a heavy breath. “There are some things I may be able to share, but….”

“But?” she asks when he doesn’t continue.

“Some of it will need to be shown to you.”

“Why?”

“Seeing is not always believing, though it must be done,” Nikolaus replies.
